um...about yesterday...

>> April 2, 2009

Dear friends, readers, fellow-PWs, beautiful ladies,

Yesterday was April 1st, April Fool's Day.

Sarah and I thought that doing a crazy, outlandish, OUTRAGEOUS April Fool's joke would be fun. We thought we would post something that was TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. (Afterall, we're poor PWs just like many of you...)

So we posted an outrageous giveaway of outrageously priced purses for EVERYONE. It seemed like a clever post...sorta believable, sorta not. And then we even asked you ministry-ize the giveaway...

That's the part that got us, ladies. Aside from all the false excitement that we generated (um, getting those emails started to not be so fun, real fast), it broke our hearts to see that so many of you were so thrilled about it and had real ministry needs to share.

The not-so-funny joke is on us. And even our wonderful pastor husbands have scolded us in the Spirit, urging us to abstain from this kind of behavior in the future. We feel really awful that our spontaneous sense of humor may cause anyone to feel let down or disappointed.

And as a make-up offering....

We've entered all of you sweet, sincere ladies who responded to yesterday's post into a random drawing to win this clutch. We shopped for it this morning because we both felt an urgent need to tangibly apologize for our attempt at humor.

This won't make up for your plans for fundraising for your church plant, silent auction, ministering to the sick and soul sick or attracting more people to youth group. But we hope the winner will accept this consolation prize in a spirit of grace and forgiveness. (Not sure if you want your name posted as the winner, so we'll contact you directly via email first.)

Again, we're sorry. We screwed up and we need mercy...

Should of known.... after I wrote someone on facebook yesterday telling them about this - they were SO excited - they had a terrible day (husband deployed to iraq - hadn't spoken with him in 2 days, principal called home on one of the kids, another kid has UTI, and the oldest is a week late on an assignment!!! I hit submit and something down inside said - april fools.....-----I said NAH.... I guess the Holy Spirit/My knower was right. I EVEN BROUGHT IT UP AT STAFF MEETING!!!! What an awesome blog/group yada yada...... had everyone write it down to share with their wives so they have a "place".

Nevertheless...............on a lighter note---- this is a great idea for us to do a "giveaway" at a women's meeting, to raise money for our church plant, to have a silent auction etc. etc..... I'm sure It got some of us thinking down a road of creativity we might not have gone April 1 with Eater around the corner, Mother Day around the next etc. etc..

love & thanks!

Ok, seriously, that is funny. In fact, I remember looking at the date and thinking "this is too good to be true...and it's April Fools.." but you guys sounded so genuine!! The part about only allowing people who responded on that date should have been the tip off! What I can say is that yes, it was a great idea that got me thinking about ways to get involved, and regardless, I am definitely planning on following through with the idea I came up with...so, that one turned out to be a great April Fool's joke in the end!! :-)

Well, I've read your Blog from time to time, and at least this post got me to subscribe to and follow you. (Just trying to look on the bright side!)

Oh, and BTW, I would have used 3 of the Coach bags for ministry, and definitely would have kept one for myself! ;)

I believed it! I must admit though..I just thought you were going to give us some cheap knock-offs!

I like the red bag better than the Coach. Where'd you get it?

Tabitha April 3, 2009 at 10:43 AM

I didn't get the joke. I didn't realize that "coach" clutches meant anything. Then after reading how people had the idea to auction them off, I got the idea that they must be super expensive.
I had no idea. Most of my purses come from Target!

Sarah April 3, 2009 at 10:53 AM

Yup, Tabitha - that's where my purses come from, too... (Or Ross and TJ Maxx clearance racks!)

COACH purses ( run anywhere from $199 for a tiny clutch, to $700 and up for handbags and totes.... Just a teensy-weensy bit above my budget! See them at: http://www.coach.com/online/.

And Jessica, the red bag comes from a store called Bakers that sells shoes and handbags where I live in Atlanta (but I think it's a chain as well). See them at: http://www.bakersshoes.com/.
